BORTH Community Hub are set to buy a defibrillator for the community.

After originally launched a fundraising drive for a community defibrillator before the pandemic began, the group had raised a considerable amount and are now just £400 off their £1,217 target.

Helen Williams from Borth Community Hub said: “Using a defibrillator immediately after a cardiac arrest greatly increases the chances of a person surviving.

“As First Aid For Life states, if a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6 per cent to 74 per cent.

“Once we have reached our target we will purchase a defibrillator and case and install it outside Borth Community Hub building.

“It will be accessible and ready to use by anyone in the area at any point during the day or night. It can be used on anyone of any age who is experiencing cardiac arrest.

“The instructions with the defibrillator make it very easy for anyone to use but the Community Hub will be running training sessions once the defibrillator is installed.”
