Ceredigion Council has closed all of its day centres in response to fears over coronavirus.

The council this afternoon said that is to to close day centres in the county to protect vulnerable service users from the possibility of infection from the virus, although there are currently no confirmed cases in Ceredigion according to Public Health Wales.

Closures will come into effect from the end of today (Friday) until further notice.

A council statement said: "The decision to close the day service at the council’s day centres was a difficult but necessary one to make.

"The health and safety of our service users and staff are our main priority and we don’t want to put them in any unnecessary risk.

"We wish to reassure the service users and their families that the service will return to normal once we are able to do so.

"Any service user who has needs that are deemed to be critical based on their assessment will continue to receive appropriate support at home during this period.

"A member of staff will be in contact with the service users to discuss this further.

"If a service user or related family wishes to discuss this further, they are welcome to contact the council on 01545 570881."There are six day centres in total across Ceredigion and they are, Canolfan Meugan, Cardigan; Canolfan Steffan, Lampeter; Canolfan Padarn, Aberystwyth; Bryntirion, Tregaron, Hafan Deg, Llambed; Aberystwyth Day Centre.
