A PUMSAINT couple have raised over £8,300 for Glangwili Hospital’s maternity ward after the tragic death of their twin baby girls.

Carwyn and Non Edwards are raising money for a dedicated bereavement suite at the hospital to help ease the trauma of bereaved parents following their own experience after the sad death of their daughters Martha and Olwen.

Part of the fundraising effort saw Carwyn and Non help Pumsaint resident Carwyn Davies to organise a half-marathon in the village in September which saw around 100 runners take part, as well as a fun run and children’s race.

Non said the couple were determined to raise money to ensure facilities that can help bereaved parents through their grief are available at the hospital.

She said: “What happened to us was very traumatic, the worst experience of our lives. We received amazing care during our time at the hospital and we are grateful for this.

“Unfortunately there is no facility at present for parents and their families to go to deal with such a situation, therefore we have been raising money for a much needed bereavement suite.”

Carwyn said the couple had received support from the local community in their fundraising efforts.

He said: “The whole community came together to support our event and we must give a special thanks to Merched y Wawr, WI and Dyffryn Cothi Young Farmers for their support on the day."
