Nearly 5,000 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded over the weekend along with 17 deaths.

Today’s figures released by Public Health Wales cover a 48-hour period up to 9am on Sunday.

They show that 4,983 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded across Wales with 100 of those new cases in Ceredigion.

Gwynedd recorded 179 new cases over the same period with 169 in Powys.

Carmarthenshire recorded 263 cases while Pembrokeshire recorded 280.

Of the 17 deaths recorded across Wales over the weekend, one has been in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and three have been in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of north Wales.

No new deaths have been recorded in Powys with the total there remaining at 77.

Hywel Dda Health Board has recorded 568 deaths since the start of the pandemic with Betsi Cadwaladr recording 1,072.

The rate of infection nationwide has dropped again to 558.9 cases per 100,000 population – over a rolling seven-day period between 21 and 27 October.

The rate of infection in Borth and Bontgoch over that timeframe however was much higher, standing at 914.0 cases per 100,000 population.

Aberystwyth South also has a high rate of infection, standing at 911.4 cases per 100,000.
