Coronavirus cases continue to rise across Wales with over 3,000 recorded over the last 48 hours.

Ceredigion has recorded 61 cases today according to the latest Public Health Wales figures, which cover a 48-hour period up to 9am on Sunday.

The latest cases mean Ceredigion has reported 101 cases over the last two days, with the county recording 40 cases in Sunday’s figures.

Carmarthenshire has recorded 188 cases today with 173 being recorded in Pembrokeshire; 117 in Powys and 92 in Gwynedd.

In total, Wales has recorded 3,247 new cases and two deaths – with five deaths recorded in figures released yesterday.

This takes the total number of Covid-19 related fatalities in Wales since the start of the pandemic to 5,658.

The sharp rise in cases has led health chiefs in Ceredigion to issue a new warning as cases rise to their highest level since January in the county.

The rate of infection nationwide currently stands at 288.6 cases per 100,000 population.

Rolling seven-day figures, which cover 12 to 18 August, so don’t take into account the latest cases, show that Ceredigion’s rate of infection currently stands at 240.7 per 100,000 population.

Gwynedd has a rate of 300.3 with Pembrokeshire recording a rate of 333.0; Powys, 291.5 and Carmarthenshire, 209.8.
