OVER 1,900 new cases of coronavirus and two deaths have been recorded across Wales today.

The latest figures from Public Health Wales show that 1,921 new cases have been recorded across Wales with the rate of infection rising slightly to 491.5 cases per 100,000 population.

This is the second day in a row that the rate has risen following a nearly-month long downward trend.

Of the new cases recorded across Wales today, 17 were recorded in Ceredigion – the lowest daily increase of any public authority in Wales.

Gwynedd saw the second highest daily rise in Wales with 130 cases recorded today.

Carmarthenshire recorded 102 new cases with Pembrokeshire recording 59 and Powys, 63.

Two deaths have been recorded across Wales today, neither of which occurred in the Hywel Dda, Betsi Cadwaladr or Powys health board regions.

A total of 6,297 deaths have been recorded across Wales since the start of the pandemic, with 593 in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire; 1,089 deaths in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of north Wales and 80 in Powys.

One west Wales council has raised concerns over the number of recorded cases in southern parts of its county.

Carmarthenshire County Council is urging people to take extra care following a high number of Covid-19 cases in the Amman Valley and St Clears areas.

At present the rate of infection in the Amman Valley area is 1,559.53 per 100,000, and 1,578.46 per 100,000 in St Clears (correct as at 15/11/21).

Most cases in the Amman Valley have been linked to known social gatherings - around 30 cases have been linked to just one social venue - but as yet there are no clear links to known gatherings in St Clears.

As a result, Carmarthenshire County Council’s contact tracing team are urging people living, working and socialising at clubs, groups or local community venues in these areas to take extra care.
