WALES has recorded more than 22,000 cases of Covid-19 and eight deaths, according to the latest figures released this lunch time by Public Health Wales.

Carmarthenshire alone has recorded 1,210 new cases of the virus in the latest figures with more than 2,600 recorded in Cardiff.

Ceredigion has recorded 396 new cases with 657 recorded in Pembrokeshire.

Powys has record 657 new cases today with Gwynedd recording 424.

A total of 22,317 cases have been recorded across Wales but this is likely to be an underestimate according to Public Health Wales, due to a lag in receiving data in recent days.

Eight deaths have been recorded across Wales today, taking the total number of Covid-19 related fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 6,589.

No deaths have been recorded by Hywel Dda Health Board, which covers Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with its total remaining at 636.

No deaths have been recorded either in the Betsi Cadwaldr Health Board region of north Wales or Powys Health Board with their totals remaining at 1,133 and

86 respectively.

The latest rolling seven-day figures, which cover 24-30 December show that Aberystwyth south had the highest rate of infection in Ceredigion, with 2,300.9 cases per 100,000 population, over one in 50 people having the virus.

Borth and Bontgoch has the second highest rate at 2,016.1.

Blaenau Ffestiniog and Trawsfynydd has the second highest rate in Gwynedd, behind Bethel and Llanrug (2,410.1), standing at 2,310.9.

Across Wales 2,491,285 have had their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 2,304,792 have had their second dose. ‘Booster’ doses have been given to 1,648,826 people.
