No new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Ceredigion or Carmarthenshire today, according to the latest figures released by Public Health Wales this lunchtime.
In Ceredigion, the seven-day rolling total (for 15 to 21 April) is just four, resulting in a rate of 5.5 cases per 100,000 population.
In Carmarthenshire, the rate is 9.5 per 100,000 due to the 18 cases in the same seven-day period.
Elsewhere in the Hywel Dda Health Board region, Pembrokeshire has today reported three new cases. The seven-day total there is five – a rate of 4.0 per 100,000.
In Powys, two new cases were reported today, while in Gwynedd there were seven.
Gwynedd’s 26.5 per 100,000 case rate for the seven-day period is the highest in Wales, largely due to an outbreak linked to a bakery in Bala.
Two deaths have been reported in Wales, taking the pandemic total to 5,548, while 97 new cases mean there have been 211,321 since the start of the pandemic.
Data reported today is for a 48-hour period up to 9am on Sunday after Public Health Wales switched to six-day reporting.
According to Public Health Wales, 1,777,375 people in Wales have received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, and 689,534 have also had their second dose.
As of the week ending 18 April, 275,652 vaccines had been administered by Hywel Dda Health Board, 118,965 by Powys Teaching Health Board, and 524,975 by Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board which covers Gwynedd.
In today’s statement, Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the Covid-19 outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “We would like to remind the public that coronavirus is still circulating in our communities and a large number of people have not been fully vaccinated.
“It is therefore vital that people observe social distancing, where face coverings when in indoor spaces, and wash hands regularly. These actions will help to prevent transmission of the virus.
“Further to the Welsh Government’s announcement, people who cannot work from home are now able to access free lateral flow self-test kits.
“The rapid coronavirus tests will be available from local test sites across Wales.
