Nearly 4,000 new cases and 17 deaths have been recorded across Wales, according to the latest statistics released this lunchtime.

Data released by Public Health Wales, which covers a 48-hour period up to 9am on Sunday, shows that 3,986 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded across Wales with the rate of infection nationwide dropping to 559.4 cases per 100,000 population.

Ceredigion recorded the lowest number of new cases in Wales with 46 over the 48-hour period.

Carmarthenshire recorded 202 new cases over the same period with Pembrokeshire recording 193.

133 new cases have been recorded in Powys while Gwynedd has recorded 132.

17 new Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded in Wales over the weekend, taking the total number of fatalities linked to the virus since the pandemic began to 5,924.

1,041 deaths have been recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board region of North Wales with Hywel Dda Health Board, which covers Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, recording 523 deaths.

73 deaths have been recorded in Powys.

People who have received letters from Hywel Dda asking them to attend booster jab sessions miles from home have been told that they can walk in to their nearest vaccination centre.

Hywel Dda confirmed that people who have received a booster jab or first jab appointment in the post can go to their nearest centre after concerns were raised that people in the Aberystwyth area were being sent to Haverfordwest, Llanelli and Carmarthen.
