A CRUCIAL meeting is taking place to decide the future of services at Canolfan Goffa Ffestiniog.

Representatives from Gwynedd Council, the Blaenau Ffestiniog Memorial Hospital Defence Committee and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board will meet in Gwynedd Council’s Arfon Chamber, Caernarfon on Monday (4 September) to discuss the level of care available at the new £3.9m health centre.

The controversial centre, due to open next month, has been the subject of much debate as the new centre will not house inpatient beds, x-ray facilities or a Minor Injuries Unit.

The Defence Committee hopes to use the meeting as an opportunity to push for additional services and will provide a free bus and banners for campaigners to head to the council meeting to show their strength of support.

A spokesperson for the Defence Committee said: “We have organised a free bus for those who wish to attend and show support for the committee’s fight to have the inpatient beds, x-ray and a Minor Injuries Unit restored at the new so called clinic on the site of the Ffestiniog Memorial Hospital.

"There will be room in the chamber for the public but they cannot make any comments during the discussion. However if any Blaenau area residents would like to be there and show their feelings about the matter, there will be appropriate banners and placards available to wave before the meeting starts. If anyone who would like to attend and support the Defence Committee, please contact committee members Gwilym Price (01766 830294), Evan G Williams (01766 830305), Geraint Vaughan Jones (01766 762429) or Dafydd Emrys Roberts (07769830167) to book your place.”

The meeting will start at 1pm in Caernarfon.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
