A GP who features in a new S4C series, Helo Syrjeri, hopes to inspire young people to work in the health sector in Wales.

Dr Rachel Davies, originally from Prestatyn but who now lives in Llan Ffestiniog, is a GP at Canolfan Goffa Ffestiniog. She worked as an inner-city GP in Nottingham, before returning to Wales three years ago to work in Blaenau Ffestiniog.

“I feel it’s important for me to return to Wales to work, and to give something back to a Welsh community like Blaenau,” said Dr Rachel.

The new fly-on-the-wall series gives the viewer a glimpse of the busy everyday lives of the GPs, the staff and patients, and what brings them together in the tight-knit community.

Over a course of a year, cameras have been recording the busy everyday life of Canolfan Goffa Ffestiniog. From the daily challenges facing the healthcare staff, to all the issues, big and small, that bring people to the centre.

“I can’t bare getting my photograph taken. Every time I see a camera, I run. But now I’ll be on TV!” said Dr Rachel.

“But the reason I’m doing this is because I want to inspire young people to work in the health services here in Wales. I’d never go in front of the camera for any other reason.”
