MEMBERS of a Llanfair Clydogau family are undertaking a two-day, 40-mile charity walk from Brecon to Newport next week to raise money for the Special Baby Care Unit at the Royal Gwent and Nevill Hall hospitals.

Rhian Lewis-Davies, her sister Sioned Lewis and cousin Kate Carrie are tackling the walk to show their appreciation for the way both hospitals cared for little Rose Lewis-Wallace, who was born 10 weeks premature with two bleeds on her brain.

Rose, who has just moved to live in Scotland with mum Nia and dad Iain, is Rhian and Sioned’s niece and was christened in Llanfair Clydogau where her grandparents still live.

“The care she received was fantastic and we wanted to do some fundraising to support the unit,” said Rhian.

”It costs £1,000 to keep a premature baby alive every day and Rose, who received 24-hour care, wouldn’t be here now without it.

“We decided to walk from Brecon and Newport because we wanted to link the two hospitals that cared for her.

“We originally aimed for a target of £750, but the fund currently stands at over £800, so who knows? We may even reach £1,000.”
