STAFF recruitment in Hywel Dda Health Board has been improved but there is still more to do, the board’s chief executive has admitted.

Services across Hywel Dda have been hit with problems in recruiting staff along with other health boards.

Hywel Dda chief executive Steve Moore said there were still issues around recruitment of consultants but he was hopeful across the health board there would be a full complement of nursing staff by the end of the financial year.

Mr Moore said the health board were stepping up attempts to recruit consultants at Bronglais Hospital with around 12 vacancies either being advertised or with adverts being drawn up.

One locum opthamology consultant has now been appointed on a permanent basis.

Mr Moore said: “We have been working for quite a while to stabilise things and there has been quite a lot of progress.

“We have had more success in nursing recruitment. That was one of our priorities when we first came in.

“By the end of the financial year we should have a full nursing complement.

“That gives us a more stable workforce and a workforce that we can look to train and to grow."
