Hywel Dda Health Board is working in partnership with other bodies to get additional ventilators to help patients badly hit by coronavirus.

With cases of coronavirus increasing across Wales and the UK, the health board said it is continuing to plan measures to help ensure adequate health facilities and equipment are in place to protect patients.

Keith Jones, the director of acute services for the health board, said it is looking to increase capacity at all sites across the health board.

That is along with measures already taken, such as suspending non-urgent surgery, while other measures being considered include plans to increase bed numbers.

Mr Jones said: "We are seeking to expand our capacity at all sites and plans are being enacted including suspension of non-urgent surgery to help release theatre facilities and staff to support patients who may require critical care.

"As part of this we are working with colleagues across NHS Wales to secure additional ventilator capacity and with our partners in local authorities and elsewhere to provide additional bed capacity to help us manage the anticipated level of patient demand over the coming weeks."
