The threat of disciplinary action against Bronglais Hospital staff parking in a patient car park has led to improvements, Hywel Dda Health Board has revealed.

Problems with parking at the hospital site have been a constant issue over many years, with the health board introducing a park and ride style system for staff in an effort to ensure the car park at the hospital is available for patients and visitors.

However, the board has now taken further steps by issuing warnings to staff about parking in the hospital car park.

It has also admitted that it is considering whether to appoint a contractor to manage the car park at the hospital.

A report that will go before the Ceredigion committee of Hywel Dda Community Health Council says: “It can be confirmed that action is now being taken to reduce the number of staff parking in the patient’s car park on the Bronglais site.

“Senior site management has informed all staff that parking in patient zones is strictly prohibited and those contravening this rule may be subject to disciplinary action.

“The only staff members who are exempt from this rule are blue badge holders or those in receipt of an occupational health exemption and who require parking provision close to their office base.

“Warning letters started being issued to staff parking in these areas from June 2019.

“Since its introduction, the number of staff parking in these areas has reduced.”
