AN INDIAN restaurant has been shut down after a rat infestation.
The Gulshan restaurant on Chancery Lane in Cardigan was closed on Monday after a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was issued by Aberystwyth Magistrates Court.
The court heard that the restaurant “poses an imminent risk of injury to health because of the presence of a rodent infestation”.
It cannot reopen until the environmental health team at Ceredigion County Council is satisfied that the problem has been dealt with.
There were “inherent risks to food safety”, a breach of health risk conditions of the Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations 2006.
Owain Jones, an environmental health officer with Ceredigion County Council, served a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice on the restaurant on 13 September following a visit.
He then told the owner, Ryaul Asad, that he would apply for the Emergency Prohibition Order.
Aberystwyth Magistrates Court ordered “the prohibition of the use of the premises for the purpose of any food business until a certificate has been issued by Ceredigion County Council to state that they are satisfied that the health risk condition is no longer fulfilled with respect to the business".
