A PWLLHELI woman whose teenage brother died of an epileptic seizure has welcomed funding of over £150,000 towards a campaign raising awareness of the condition.
Eighteen-year-old Dylan Morus Roberts, of Llanaelhaearn, died on 7 May 2007 due to a condition known as Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
SUDEP is attributed if a person with epilepsy dies suddenly and unexpectedly, and no obvious cause of death can be found. It is sometimes called sudden unexplained death in epilepsy.
Since his tragic death, Dylan’s siblings, Llinos Williams and Carwyn Roberts, have been tirelessly fundraising and raising awareness of the condition since their brother’s death.
Llinos and Carwyn have both also been diagnosed with epilepsy and receive support from Epilepsy Action Cymru, which recently received £159,300 from the Big Lottery Fund to be used to improve access to information about epilepsy at different stages of care.
However, with the support of Epilepsy Action Cymru, Llinos and her family have overcome the challenges that they face and are now championing awareness of the condition and helping others to learn more about it.
