BETSI Cadwaladr health board has had a reshuffle and now has a new chairman.

Two new Independent Members have been appointed, Helen Wilkinson and Lucy Reid, to help the struggling health board which has been in special measures since June 2015.

Marian Wyn Jones has also been appointed to the role of vice-chairman.

The health board’s new chairman Mark Polin, formerly of North Wales Police, took up his post on 1 September, succeeding Dr Peter Higson in the role.

All of the posts were filled following a public appointments recruitment process.

Helen Wilkinson has served as chief executive of the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council since 2016, and is a Wales committee member for the Big Lottery Fund.

She has worked in public policy, communications and social entrepreneurship for more than two decades with a wide range of organisations, including a number of charities.

Lucy Reid has worked in private and public sector organisations for more than 20 years, including 18 years in the NHS, and undertakes a number of judicial roles across the UK.

Mark Polin, chairman of the Health Board, said: “Helen, Lucy and Marian bring a wealth of experience to the Board, and will play a vital role in our ongoing work to improve health services across North Wales.

“I wish to thank our outgoing Independent Member Ceri Stradling for his commitment to the health board over recent years.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Dr Peter Higson for his service as Chairman of the Health Board over the last five years, and wish him every success for the future.”
