Gwynedd Council has marked World Menopause Day by launching a new policy for staff.

Gwynedd Council is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive working environment for all members of the workforce, and with women making up more than two thirds of the council’s staff, the authority has introduce its ground-breaking new human resources Menopause Policy.

Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for human resources, said: “Menopause is a natural part of every woman’s life and it isn’t always an easy time. But with the right support, it can be much better.

“Though every woman does not suffer with symptoms, supporting those who do will improve their experience at work.

“This of course is better for the individual concerned and also benefits those members of the public who depend on the council’s services day in, day out.”

Under this new policy, all managers within the council will be open to speak to their staff about their needs in a professional and non-judgemental manner. Where possible, they will put measures in place to help staff to continue with their duties despite their symptoms.
