TWO defibrillators are to be installed on Pen Llyn beaches thanks to the fundraising efforts of locals.

The move comes in response to the death on Nefyn beach earlier this year.

Police officers from North Wales Police Gwynedd South announced this week that thanks to the fund raising efforts of the ’Nefyn Mermaids’ - a female social group of hardy sea bathers based at Nefyn – enough money has now been raised to install AED units at Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn beach.

Abersoch PCSO Steve Regan met with the swimmers and handed over a North Wales Police and Community Trust - PACT (Police and Community Award) cheque of £250 to Sue Cookson and members of the group in Nefyn.

The new defibrillators will be installed at the bottom of Lon Traeth in Nefyn and on the the slipway access to Morfa Nefyn beach.

North Wales Police said: “The support from the Nefyn Community for this initiative to make the beaches safer has been brilliant and many thanks to all the Mermaids.”
