A LAMPETER mum is launching a new support group on behalf of national charity Epilepsy Action.

The coffee and chat group will meet on Thursday, 5 October, to support people affected by epilepsy in Lampeter and across Ceredigion.

The group, who will meet on the first Thursday of the month at 6.30pm at Granny’s Kitchen, 14 High Street, say the drop-in session is a chance for people affected by epilepsy to come together in an informal setting to support each other and share experiences.

Tina Potter, a local Epilepsy Action volunteer, is running the new group. Her eight-year-old daughter Madi has epilepsy.

“She started having seizures aged two and half, and at first we thought they were febrile,” she said.

“But soon they increased to several seizures a day. They were so frequent they resulted in a severe developmental delay.

“Madi was effectively like a baby, but now she’s developing again starting to talk, learning to write letters and slowly catching up.”

Tina hopes the new group will support people just like her. “The whole point is to have something local to help people feel less isolated.

“We are so spread out here in Ceredigion, and even though epilepsy can vary, the solutions are not that different."
