A CONSULTATION into the future of Aberystwyth’s Bodlondeb care home should be delayed amid confusion over how much it would cost to renovate and refurbish the building, campaigners have insisted.

Members of the Save Bodlondeb campaign group had already questioned the decision to hold the consultation into the council’s proposed closure of the home through the summer.

But they have now said that, following suggestions the authority is trying to produce an updated list of renovation costs, the consultation period should be extended to allow members of the public to respond to any new information.

A request from the campaign group to meet with council officials to discuss the costs of upgrading Bodlondeb has so far been met with silence from the authority, they say.

Mark Williams, the former Ceredigion MP who chairs the steering group of the campaign group, said there were already questions around the consultation and that would become more of an issue if new information was introduced toward the end of the consultation period.

He said: “Our cross-party group is united in calling on Ceredigion Council to extend its consultation period beyond the 25 September deadline. It is the oldest trick in the book to hold a consultation over the summer months, have few responses and then use that as an excuse to proceed with closure.”

Mr Williams said any new report into renovation costs would have a major impact on the consultation and would leave members of the public and campaigners without the time to respond properly.
