Twelve new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Ceredigion today as the health minister warns that Christmas this year ‘won’t be like normal’.

The 12 new cases in Ceredigion take the seven-day total to 60 cases with the county having an infection rate of 82.5 cases per 100,000 population, the standard measurement of infection across the UK.

Of those 60 cases in the past week, 23 have been recorded in the Rheidol, Ystwyth and Caron region which covers from Ponterwyd down into Llanbadarn and Penparcau and South towards Llanilar and Tregaron.

Gwynedd has recorded seven new cases today, taking its weekly total to 64 and giving the county an infection rate of 51.4 cases per 100,000 population.

Carmarthenshire has yet again recorded the largest increase in daily figures in West Wales with 42 new cases today.

These new cases take the weekly total to 284 cases with an infection rate of 150.4.

Pembrokeshire has recorded 19 new cases today taking its seven-day total to 78 and leaving it with an infection rate of 62.0.

Powys has recorded 13 new cases today taking the weekly total to 126 and leaving the county with an infection rte of 95.1.

The latest figures come as Wales’ health minister, Vaughan Gething, warned today that Christmas ‘won’t be like normal’ this year but details on restrictions over the festive period won’t be agreed for weeks.

He also warned that Wales is currently on course to see a large peak in Covid-19 related deaths this Winter.

He said: “In the first two weeks of November, Public Health Wales has recorded more than 250 deaths from coronavirus.

"This is a very sobering number.

“But of course, these are not just numbers – these are people who leave behind lives and loved ones. There will be more than 250 families across Wales who are mourning their loss.”

Mr Gething added that discussions were ongoing regarding travel restrictions over the festive period and that officials were still looking at evidence around contact with people from different homes, but admitted the picture will become clearer on how Christmas will look in the coming weeks.
