A NEW St John group has been set up in Lampeter following requests from the local community.

The group currently has 16 adult volunteers who have already completed over 400 volunteer hours between them and have provided medical cover at local events in Lampeter and its surrounding areas.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Our plans for 2017 is to launch a ‘Badger Sett’, a group for five to 10-year-old children who are keen to learn new skills and improve on existing ones, and make new friends. The Badger Sett will commence in May 2017 following our Badger Fun Day at Lampeter Rugby Club on the 13 May.

“In September, we will form a cadet section to the youth of the community aged between 11 and 18. They will be able to learn new and essential first aid skills, go out supporting our adult members in the community and complete the Duke of Edinburgh and Amalfi awards.

“Our adult volunteers currently meet every Wednesday from 6.30pm until 9pm at our new training base Lampeter Rugby Club where our members learn the skills and knowledge needed to provide first aid cover in the community and the additional skills to work with the youth section."
