HYWEL Dda Health Board has confirmed that none of its buildings are clad with the same materials used on Grenfell Tower.

The announcement comes following a Freedom of Information request by the Cambrian News after the health board refused to make the findings of its urgent review public, despite calls from Elin Jones AM for all public bodies to be “wholly open”.

Hywel Dda said it was only required to report its findings to the Welsh Government.

Aberystwyth University has also confirmed that none of its buildings are clad with systems similar to that used at Grenfell Tower, and released details of the materials used on its most recent renovation project, Cledwyn Bridge.

The health board’s response stated: “Following the Grenfell Tower Fire, Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) was requested by Welsh Government to undertake a detailed review of their property portfolio.

“The purpose of the review was to establish whether any Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding systems were installed within its estate. Having now undertaken this detailed review, the UHB has confirmed that no such cladding systems are in use.”

The university said it was using Rockwool RWA45 insulation fixed on the outside of the existing concrete cladding on Cledwyn Bridge, on Penglais Campus.

Spanatherm Firetherm fire-breaks are being installed vertically every 20 meters and either side of all common areas, horizontally on every floor except the top floor, and that the construction of the outer rainscreen panel consists of a powder-coated aluminium cassette panel.
