MEMBERS of the Save Bodlondeb campaign group have vowed to keep fighting to protect health and social care despite losing the battle to keep the home open.
The group had considered calling for a judicial review of the closure but the cost of several thousands of pounds to do so had made it impossible before the deadline of Christmas Eve.
But despite reluctantly admitting defeat over Bodlondeb, the group has insisted it will look to monitor future health and social care developments to challenge decisions it feels will not benefit patients and residents in the county.
A spokesperson for the campaign group said: “If Bodlondeb is to close, then the Save Bodlondeb campaign will have failed in its primary purpose and will become defunct.
“However, it has left a legacy demonstrating that the population of Ceredigion is simply not prepared to be the passive recipients of the consequences of unjust and undemocratic decisions.
“A change of name may be necessary, but public bodies in Ceredigion need to be aware that the Save Bodlondeb Steering Group leaves a legacy and demonstrates a determination from ordinary residents to pool skills and work together to monitor health and social care policy in Ceredigion and challenge where appropriate.”
The group had taken legal advice following the decision by Ceredigion council’s Cabinet, and a council scrutiny committee which supported the decision, to close Bodlondeb.
While the group spokesperson said that it had been suggested that there was a strong case for a judicial review, raising the necessary funds to be able to go through the process was difficult.
