NO new coronavirus cases were reported in Ceredigion today by Public Health Wales for the second day in a row.

However, changes to the way figures are reported means today’s figures represent only a six-hour timeframe of reporting, as opposed to 24 hours as has been the case previously.

No new cases were reported in Gwynedd, Powys or Pembrokeshire today either, with Carmarthenshire seeing three new cases reported.

The total for Wales today was 16 - reflecting the smaller timeframe of reporting.

Dr Robin Howe, incident director for the Covid-19 outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Due to a change in our reporting process, today we are reporting a lower than usual number of new cases of Covid-19 in Wales.

“Today’s figures reflect a much shorter period of six hours of testing. Case numbers will return to normal on Friday, as we return to 24-hour reporting.

“Sixteen new cases have tested positive for Covid-19 in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,089, although the true number of cases is likely to be higher."

A breakdown of local authorities’ coronavirus statistics is available and updated daily on the Public Health Wales website, thanks to a new dashboard launched this week.

The change in timeframe is thought to be to align the test reporting timeframes with the rest of the UK.

Tests are only being carried out in hospital, and so the true rate of infection is certain to be significantly higher.
