NO new deaths from coronavirus have been recorded in Wales today, according to the latest figures.

Data released this lunch time by Public Health Wales shows that no Covid-19 deaths have been recorded today, leaving the total number of fatalities linked to the virus in Wales at 5,403.

164 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Wales over the past 24 hours, giving the nation an infection rate of 45 cases per 100,000 population.

Only one new case was recorded in Ceredigion, with Pembrokeshire recording three and Carmarthenshire, five.

Powys recorded nine new cases while Gwynedd recorded 12, which has led to a warning from the county council against complacency.

Despite a national downward trend in daily cases, Gwynedd has seen its numbers stay relatively high, with council chiefs warning that the situation in Gwynedd remains ‘a cause for concern”.

The general downward trend in daily cases across Wales may lead to a loosening of restrictions from Friday, when First Minister Mark Drakeford next reviews Covid-19 restrictions.

On Sunday, Mr Drakeford suggested that the stay-at-home message may be replaced with a stay local rule as the country transitions back to normal life.
