A special open day to show how people interested in nursing could study at Swansea University will be held in Aberystwyth on Wednesday, 1 May.

The university has an award-winning nursing programme which provides expert tuition and professional support close to home, and the university wants to attract more students to help boost nurse numbers.

The Aberystwyth open day, which will be at Aberystwyth’s Park Lodge Hotel from 1pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday, 1 May, will give local people the chance to see how they could benefit from the course, which is taught both in Swansea and at the satellite campus in Carmarthen.

Hanna Davies, of Capel Dewi, is one of the students who have studied as part of the course and found that studying locally meant she was able to cut costs by doing things like sharing lifts.

Hannah, whose childhood dream was to become a nurse, said: "When I was a little girl my grandad had cancer and he always told my mum that one day I would make a good nurse and that inspired me to study a nursing degree.

"On my first day of placement I was terrified to enter the ward, but the staff were so kind and welcoming they made my four weeks fly by.

"On your placement you get to meet different people and learn new experiences and skills.

"All the staff are lovely and willing to help and answer any questions.

"Everyone has times when they think they can’t do it anymore, but every step of the course is definitely worth it."

A second open day will be held in Carmarthen at Swansea University’s St David’s Park complex on Wednesday, 15 May between 4pm and 7pm.
