More than 10 per cent of the population of Ceredigion has received the first coronavirus vaccine jab, figures have revealed.

Hywel Dda University Health Board figures revealed that, in Ceredigion, 7,459 people have received the vaccine at appointments in GP surgeries and mass vaccination centres in the county up to 28 January.

With a population of 72,695, it means that 10.3 per cent of Ceredigion residents have received the first vaccine jab, including frontline workers, healthcare staff and the over-80s.

Throughout the Hywel Dda region, 60.2 per cent of over 80-year-olds have received the first vaccination, with 85.7 per cent of care home residents having been given the first jab.

More than three quarters of care home worker and more than two thirds of health and social care staff have also been given their first vaccine.

Ceredigion now has two mass vaccination centres open in the county, at the Thomas Parry building in Llanbadarn and the Teifi Leisure Centre in Cardigan, while all GP surgeries have received stock of vaccine.

Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board, Maria Battle, said the vaccination programme is “accelerating at a remarkable pace”, with those aged 70 to 79 having started to be invited to appointments.
