CEREDIGION has seen the biggest daily jump in coronavirus cases since the pandemic began with 46 cases being recorded today (Monday).

The county, which had recorded 45 cases in all of last week, recorded 46 cases on Monday, according to Public Health Wales.

These new cases take the county’s seven-day total to 86 and gives Ceredigion an infection rate of 118.3 cases per 100,000 population, the standard measurement of cases across the UK.

The new cases come after Ceredigion County Council confirmed on Monday that staff and residents at Hafan y Waun Care Home had tested positive for Covid-19 and some Year 7 pupils at Ysgol Gyfyn Penglais have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days after a Covid-19 case was confirmed at the school.

A breakdown of Ceredigion shows that the large area of Rheidol, Ystwyth and Caron has recorded the most cases with 48 positive tests in the last seven days.

The area covers a wide stretch of the county from Ponterwyd, down through Llanbadarn and Penparcau and out towards Llanilar and Tregaron.

This region has an infection rate of 389.7 cases per 100,000 population.

Elsewhere, Powys has recorded seven new cases today and Gwynedd, five new cases.

Carmarthenshire has recorded 65 cases today and Pembrokeshire has recorded eight new cases.
