COMPLAINTS have been flooding in over access at the new £5m Tywyn Hospital.
The new centre, which opened earlier this year, has recently seen the relocation of GP services to the first floor.
However, between the entrance and the surgery, patients are expected to negotiate the new build’s only lift and also open five sets of heavy, manual double doors.
Pat Tocker, a 65-year-old who suffers with respiratory issues, barely managed to access her local health care services.
Her daughter, Zoe Callow, said: “I went with my mother who suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to the new hospital this week and she struggled to open all five sets of double doors because of her breathing.
“Someone hasn’t given this much thought, have they?”
Tywyn council chair and Meirionnydd Access Group member John Boulter has also had “numerous” complaints from people.
“I am organising a meeting with the hospital in the near future to investigate these complaints,” Cllr Boulter told the Cambrian News.
