A TROUBLED nursing home in Meirionnydd has received a damning food hygiene rating.
The Bay Nursing Home in Tywyn, which was subject to much controversy after a report by Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales last year, only received one star out of a possible five in its latest report from Gwynedd Council’s food safety officers.
Admissions to the house were halted last year following concerns about residents’ dignity and health were raised by inspectors, but on re-inspection was found to have ‘vastly improved’ in its care provision.
The latest food hygiene rating came after a site visit on 11 October and stated there was “major improvement necessary” at the care facility.
The Bay Nursing Home has subsequently removed the person in charge of the kitchen at that time and say they are “very confident” of an improved rating in the very near future.
Although there was “improvement necessary” for the home’s food handling and cleanliness, it was the management of food safety which caused inspectors the most concern.
Speaking to the Cambrian News, a spokesperson for the Bay Nursing Home said of the report: “The person in charge of the kitchen at that time has now left.
“We are being re-scored this week and we are very confident of an improved rating.”
