INSTALLING a new MRI scanner and providing an improved chemotherapy day unit have been described as priority schemes for Bronglais Hospital.
The Welsh Government has already allocated money for the new MRI scanner and plans are in the process of being drawn up for a new chemotherapy day unit to provide a better environment for patients.
A report into health services in Ceredigion by county director Peter Skitt said progress on the schemes was being made, with funding for the scanner already confirmed, but with the health board needing to identify an alternative location for the medical records service.
Mr Skitt said: “The installation of a new scanner requires the relocation of the health records department. Structural surveys are currently under way to assess the suitability of the identified site for the new health records department.
“The Welsh Government has allocated capital funds for the purchase and installation of the scanner, but additional capital will be required to relocate the health records service.
“Once complete, the DxA scanner will be able to relocated within the main radiology department, which will allow the provision of a dedicated procedure room adjacent to CT for stroke thrombolysis.”
Work on providing a new chemotherapy day unit is not as advanced, but Mr Skitt said it was hugely important.
