THE end of the consultation into the future of the Bodlondeb care home is just the beginning of the fight for the home and other care homes across Ceredigion, a campaign group has vowed.

The steering group of the Save Bodlondeb campaign insisted that protest events would continue and the group would continue to lobby the council for talks over the future of Bodlondeb ahead of a recommendation for the home’s future going to the council’s Cabinet.

Mark Williams, the former Ceredigion MP who chairs the steering group, said it was important that the group continued to question how care services would be provided in the future, not just in north Ceredigion, but across the whole county.

He said: “The council’s ‘official’ consultation may be over, but our group is strongly resolved to continue its work to defend Bodlondeb, its staff and its residents, to seek alternatives to closure, to work collaboratively and constructively with others and to press the broad case for public sector care across Ceredigion.”

The campaign group has responded to the consultation and also submitted a written petition and an online petition that in total has attracted over 5,000 signatures.

A spokesperson for the group insisted there were alternatives to closing the home.
