A PONTRHYDFENDIGAID woman has raised money for the maternity and cancer wards at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth after her premature son and her friend received “incredible care” from staff.

Kizzie Garner, a training advisor, raised £1,250 by completing the Cardiff Half Marathon in October, and on Wednesday, 17 January she presented cheques for £625 to each ward.

“I ran the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for the Angharad and Meurig wards due to my son being born prematurely and the fast acting maternity team ensured that he was delivered safely,” the 35-year-old told the Cambrian News.

“Due to this unexpected arrival at almost a month before his due date, we did not have any clothes small enough to fit him, therefore special ones had to be ordered online for premature babies.

“I therefore wish for the money I raised to be spent on purchasing premature clothing for the ward, in order for any other parents that are caught short also to have appropriate clothing for their newborns.

“I cannot thank Bronglais enough for their care.

“A childhood friend of mine also suffered from breast and lymph node cancer and was the youngest to go through the cancer of this type at Bronglais Hospital.

“She received such fantastic care on Meurig Ward during this extremely difficult time, that I felt they needed recognition for their good work also.”
