A spike in coronavirus cases in Lampeter and the south of Ceredigion has been transmitted from the north of the county in recent days and is “causing concern”, the council has said.

Public Health Wales data on Monday put the Lampeter and Llanfihangel Ystrad area at 182 cases per 100,000 for the last seven days - the highest in the county and higher than the numbers seen in the Aberystwyth North area last week where a warning over a rate spike was issued.

A council spokesperson told the Cambrian News: “The council is concerned with the rates of Covid-19 across the whole of Ceredigion and we are now seeing the number of cases increase further south.

“We are able to see over recent days the movement and transmission of Covid-19 from the north of the county further south.”

"Seven out of the nine areas in the county are over the 50 per 100,000 population level and we urge residents and visitors to the county to follow the regulations in Wales: wear a face mask inside public spaces; keep a social distance indoors; and maintain good hand hygiene.

"We are urging all adults to ensure that they have taken up the offer of a vaccine and as well as taking up the second vaccine which provides individual protection as well as greater protection for our loved ones and communities."
