A KIND-HEARTED teenager has been lauded after volunteering her time to raise awareness of mental health issues in Meirionnydd.

Elin Roberts, a sixth form student studying at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, is a support services volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Last week, Cllr Linda Morgan visited the Alzheimers Society Dementia Red Project at the Dolgellau Surgery where she met Elin Roberts.

She learnt how the teenager provides information for the people living with dementia or worried about their memory or that of a family member or friend.

Elin also lends a sympathetic ear to anyone who needs emotional support.

Speaking after their meeting. Cllr Morgan stated: “Elin is a very inspirational young lady and it is so nice to see young people concerned about Dementia.

“Elin is a sixth form student who is interested in medicine and a career in health care.

“There was a lot of information available for the public and literature is available in the surgery if people are interested.

“Around 850,000 people in the UK have dementia and the chance of developing dementia increases with age.

“One in 14 people over 65 and one in six people over 80 has dementia.

“The earlier you seek help, the sooner you can get the information, advice and support you need.”
