HYWEL Dda Health Board has again failed to have a three-year plan accepted by the Welsh Government.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Vaughan Gething announced that Hywel Dda chiefs would instead focus on a one-year plan as the board faces “ongoing strategic, service and financial challenges”.

Hywel Dda is one of three health boards that will produce one-year plans, with Betsi Cadwaladr and Abertawe Bro Morgannwg health boards also not having three-year plans accepted.

Cardiff and Vale Trust has been granted an extension to produce a three-year plan.

But despite the problems highlighted by Mr Gething, Hywel Dda chief executive Steve Moore welcomed the announcement.

He said: “We are pleased that the Cabinet Secretary recognises the challenges that we face.

“We are looking forward to continuing to work in partnership with Welsh Government to implement our agreed one-year plan and to continue developing our three-year strategy.

“Over the last year, we have seen our service performance stabilise and we remain ambitious about improving health outcomes, quality of care and best value across all our services for the benefit of our local population.”

Mr Gething said it was accepted that there were a number of issues that need to be addressed within Hywel Dda.
