Politicians have been given a guided tour of Porthmadog’s new housing scheme for the area’s elderly.

Porthmadog councillors Nia Jeffreys and Selwyn Griffiths welcomed Liz Saville Roberts MP, Helen Mary Jones AM and Cllr Dafydd Meurig to the brand new housing scheme for older people in the town, Hafod y Gest (pictured). They had the chance to look around the development and speak to tenants.

Cllr Jeffreys said: “It was a pleasure to show them round Hafod y Gest. Thank you to the tenants who welcomed us to their homes and shared their positive stories. A big thank you to Grwp Cynefin and Council staff too.

“It is so important that older people have high quality housing and, if they need it, high quality care in their own community. I really look forward to seeing more developments like this in Dwyfor Meirionnydd in the future, indeed this could be a model that could be rolled out across Wales.”

Cllr Selwyn Griffiths added: “Having being involved with the development of the new Hafod y Gest since the planning and development stages as the Gwynedd Councillor for the ward, it was a pleasure to visit the complex with our government representatives.

“Residents have by now settled into their new homes and it is very obvious from my visits there to meet them that they are enjoying living there.

“By now every flat has been filled and the residents have already established a homely community atmosphere there.”
