Nefyn Town Council has issued a statement calling for the closure of caravan parks.
The council is appealing to owners to close to close to protect the public.
“Nefyn Town Council are asking you as owners of caravan parks/ holiday lets to close your units while we face the Covid-19 emergency,” the statement said.
“This comes from the campaign led by our local general practitioners to urge tourists and second homeowners/static caravans to not come to the area.”
Quoting Dr Eilir Hughes, general practitioner and primary care lead for Dwyfor, the statement goes on: “We have evidence that a significant amount of people who come to the area are retired elderly people thinking that they are safer here, but the truth is they are the ones in the high risk group, and most likely to need service within our practices. This would put additional strain on our already over stretched resources. We ask everybody to stay at their primary address.”
The town council added: “Now that the schools are closed, and the Easter holidays approaching, the Dwyfor population will treble, our Health Care can not cope, and lives will be lost.”
