BRONGLAIS Hospital’s newly reformed library is hoping to attract more volunteers.
As part of the library service, volunteers take a trolley of books around the wards to offer to patients twice a week.
One volunteer, Anne Lucas, said it was “the best job in the hospital”.
The team hopes to be able to expand the service if more volunteers can be found to help Anne and new recruit Michael Allcock.
The hospital library was initially started in 1936 before it disbanded in the 1990s, but was resurrected in November 2017.
Donations of books have been made by a range of organisations.
Rosalind Llewellyn-Harris, the library and knowledge services manager, said they were grateful for the support.
She said: “The library has been going for a very long time.
“We’ve had books from all sorts of people. We’ve been incredibly lucky.”
The trolley service has been greeted with enthusiasm by both patients and staff.
Anne said: “Everyone was quite surprised at first and then it became regular and they really enjoy it.
“The staff always say it’s a good service, as it’s someone else for the patients to see during the day.
“It’s something to take the patients’ minds off things and have a little chit chat.
“We’d like to encourage more volunteers. It’s so lovely. It’s so nice to be able to go to a ward and say hello and ask how people are feeling today. It’s somebody different to talk to.
“I think personally it’s the best job in the hospital as you get to go to every ward."
