THREE new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Ceredigion today.
Daily figures released this afternoon by Public Health Wales show that 764 new cases were identified in Wales in the last day with five new deaths.
Three of those cases are in Ceredigion taking the seven-day total for the county to 22, an infection rate of 30.3 cases per 100,000 population.
This is the second lowest rate in Wales, behind Pembrokeshire which has an infection rate of 23.8 and recorded one new case today, taking its weekly total to 30.
Gwynedd recorded 23 new cases today, thought to be mainly in the Bangor area of the county, which is currently under hyperlocal lockdown.
This takes Gwynedd’s seven-day total to 114 with an infection rate county wide of 91.5 cases per 100,000 people.
Carmarthenshire has recorded 23 new cases today, taking its weekly total to 111 and giving it an infection rate of 58.8 cases per 100,000.
Powys has recorded 11 new cases taking the seven-day total to 57 and leaving the county with an infection rate of 43.0.
Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “We have seen an increase in transmission of the coronavirus in social clubs, and would like to remind the public that the virus spreads really well in social situations.
“Local restrictions are now in place in Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan, and Wrexham local authority areas, and in the hyperlocal areas of Bangor and Llanelli.
“People who live in these areas must abide by these restrictions to protect themselves, their families, friends, older and vulnerable people, and keep Wales safe.”
