A community wellbeing group in Bala is aiming to help people talk about mental health.
Earlier this month, Bala Community Wellbeing group gathered at Yr Hwb in Bala for afternoon tea to talk about mental health, share experiences, and learn about then support available locally for anybody experiencing mental health issues or challenges.
The theme of this year’s event was body image, and the group held a discussion on this topic led by the group co-ordinator.
Following funding received from the Lloyds Bank Foundation, the group has been meeting in Bala for almost a year, and they have now decided to move the location of their meetings to the newly opened Yr Hwb, formerly known as Gorwelion. The group is well attended and is supported by the GPs at the Bala Health Centre and the local community mental health Team.
Group co-ordinator Eileen Griffiths said: “We are really pleased to have been able to secure a room at Yr Hwb.
“The location is absolutely wonderful for the activities we have planned for the months ahead. These will include Walking For Wellbeing, mindfulness sessions and courses to help people to understand and manage their anxiety and depression, and improve their self esteem. The open aspect and the views from the centre will give people a fantastic base from which to help them to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.”
The group is a project of the Meirionnydd-based charity, Tan y Maen Wellbeing Centre.
Anybody interested in joining the group or finding out more about the group and one-on-one support and activities available, is welcome to contact Eileen on 07495 127245 or email her on [email protected]
