Madam,

My heart goes out to dedicated volunteers, campaigners and ordinary workers across the globe let down by the arrogant and immoral actions of those at the top. Why does that sound so depressingly familiar? Again we are asking, ‘what on earth is the matter with people?’

Also depressing is the speed at which this dreadful revelation is used as a reason to reduce the amount of help we give as a nation to alleviate poverty.

It is part of human nature to be compassionate and generous to others in trouble: also to resent people patiently dealing with a mess we have made, such as, since 1942, Oxfam has been dealing with the after-effects of war, climate change and the creation of the super-wealthy class.

Sympathy and very best wishes to all Oxfam supporters at the shop, in the groups and the community locally.
