Madam,

Over the coming months, we shall probably be hearing much about the changes with the Welsh Government with new voting systems and 30-plus per cent increase in Assembly Members.

I’m sure that I am not the only one questioning these changes and the costs to the taxpayer. It’s not just the increase in AMs, but the support staff that will inevitably go with them.

We can have all the ‘consultation’ meetings we like, but these tend not to achieve much as most of the AMs will support increasing their own kind. Only one party in the Senedd is against this waste of taxpayer’s money - UKIP.

We have to ask ourselves, why do we need any more AMs?

One of the latest high points of discussion in the Senedd recently has been that the Welsh Government is to consult seven to 11-year-old children on what they think about Brexit. You couldn’t make this up.

The Minister for Children, Huw Irranca-Davies, said: “It’s absolutely vital we ensure their views and concerns are listened to. The views of seven to 11-year-olds will be gathered in schools, with teachers or support staff present.” Here is an AM with far too much time on his hands.

Can I make a suggestion to Mr Irranca-Davies, find out first if the children believe in Santa Claus. If the answer is affirmative, then there is absolutely nothing to be gained in further interrogation! Let children have a childhood and stop treating them as a small version of an adult.

Do we really need another 20 to 30 AMs coming out with this tripe? When Neil Hamilton said what a disgrace this was, several AMs heckled him. Perhaps, if they had a modicum of common sense they would realise the stupidity of this venture.

First, we had the NHS asking five-year-olds, ‘are you happy with your gender?’. How many asked, ‘what’s a gender?’. Now we have the Welsh Government asking seven-year-olds their views on Brexit. ‘I’m in favour of breakfast’, said an eight-year-old girl. Hear, hear. Heaven preserve us from more AMs.

Yours etc,

Chris Samuel, address supplied.
