Editor,

Reading the report on youth homelessness (Cambrian News, 2 January edition) shows a great deal is going on in Gwynedd which is dismaying and disturbing.

There must be several stories behind this report for the figure of a 575 per cent rise in cases of homelessness dealt with by the charity to be reported; along with the figure of £40,000 to be offered by the council to the charity, which is greatly involved in helping these young people.

Are all these youngsters orphans, or have they had not-so-wonderful experiences at home? (Having said that, I don’t know of anyone who had perfect parents).

The text cites “financial issues, mental health support, and life skills, none of which occur in isolation.

Although the text does not mention drug abuse, could that be part of the overall picture/ problem too?

These young people are going to be the next generation of parents.

As things are, what are they learning? None of us can stand back from this worrying scenario and help must be forthcoming, from whichever quarter, and from more than a few.
