A COMMUNITY venture is seeking volunteers to step forward to develop Barmouth.

Next month, a group will convene to decide how the town can promote itself, maintain its assets, and build for the future.

Barmouth Community Trust is a community company that evolved from the initial ‘Gwynedd Challenge’ project in November 2015.

In 2016, Barmouth Services Project was formed by Barmouth Town Council to include town councillors and other interested parties within the community of Barmouth.

Barmouth Services Project started discussions with Gwynedd Council looking at alternative delivery models for services in Barmouth to ensure sustainability and a long term future for public services.

In line with these discussions, feasibility work was undertaken to ensure the viability of the options identified.

The work has included developing a vision for Barmouth, looking at assets and services that are under threat and exploring whether there could be better ways to run, maintain and develop these assets.

One key task was to identify and create an organisation that would be able to take the vision forward.

This was the creation of Barmouth Community Trust with the appointment of 13 members of the project team who volunteered to stand as the initial directors of the company.

The trust requires community support and seeks to involve anyone who has an interest in Barmouth and its future development.

There will be an open meeting on Thursday, 5 July, 10am until 7pm in the Art’s Room (Dragon Theatre, Jubilee Road, Barmouth LL42 1EF).

A spokesperson promoting the event said: “Do you have a skill that you would be willing to share to support Barmouth Community Trust in its objectives?

“Do you have a local project idea and don’t know where to get support?

“Your views are important – the community open meeting is an opportunity to air your views, so come along and have a chat with us.

“Do you want to become a member of Barmouth Community Trust?

“You can sign up as a member at the community open meeting.”
