THE HIGHLIGHTS of the recent International Sheepdog Trials in Tywyn will be televised tonight.

Showing at 9.30pm on S4C, all the highlights from the trials will be shown in Treialon Cwn Defaid 2016, with English subtitles available.

Ffermio presenters Daloni Metcalfe, Alun Elidyr and Meinir Howells will bring you a taste of this annual international event that travels from country to country, with Wyn Gruffydd and Meirion Owen commentating on the sheep runs.

Wales has a prominent place in the history of the international sheepdog trials as the first ever trials were held at the Rhiwlas estate in Bala back in 1873.

It was therefore fitting for the trials to return to the same county, but this time to Sandilands Farm, near Tywyn, on the Cardigan Bay coastline.

Daloni Metcalfe said that the Ffermio crew received a warm welcome in Meirionnydd, with the mountains and sea providing a fantastic backdrop and it was an ideal location to showcase the trials at their best.

Daloni said; “The standard of the competition was incredible this year, and it was a pleasure to be there.

“When you watch the trials, you’re sucked in to the world of a shepherd.

“The strain on the competitors is phenomenal and the discipline they have on the dogs is remarkable.

“It’s obvious to anyone watching that it takes years of hard work to get every movement right, and that the partnership between a master and his dog is still as important as ever.”

The trials return to Wales for the first time since 2012, and there was a fierce competition between the handlers and the four home nations.
