THE biggest event in the Welsh language calendar is coming to Gwynedd.

At a town council meeting last week, Gwynedd Council leader Dyfrig Siencyn heavily hinted that the National Eisteddfod, which can bring millions of pounds to the local economy, will be held in the county in 2021.

The 2019 event will be held in Llanwrst and the 2020 Eisteddfod will be in Tregaron, Ceredigion.

A spokesperson for the National Eisteddfod confirmed that the festival is likely to be held in Gwynedd, but stressed that a set location had not yet been decided.

“We are looking at the Gwynedd area for the 2021 Eisteddfod, but no decision has been made regarding the location,” the spokesperson told the Cambrian News.

Speaking at Dolgellau’s town council, Cllr Siencyn, who represents the town as a county councillor, was updating his fellow councillors on his diary.

After mentioning a visit to the Eisteddfod held recently in Cardiff, the council leader said: “Maybe it might come to Gwynedd in 2021. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.”
